Cyberism - a parrel to anything offline must be Cyber!
From cyborg to cyber-mania, as online socialization peeks to everything that is emotional and dramatic, it is wonder how many 'cybers' have been made. Would any of the past psychologists ever thought how far their methods would expand? At the time perhaps it wasn't an issue beyond outer society to study the interactions of the individual mind. Now with a solid communication line through the Internet, people can act as they would face to face. Or do they? Some would argue how people interact online does not necessarily reflect them. We become cyber-people online; completely different in imagery until associated with pictures or web videos. But I'd beg to differ; I have every reason to believe the psyche of an individual is greatly magnified when dissociated with image; a reason to study the minds and behaviors through words, word choice, or word structure comes into play. Could this be cyber-psychology? It's not farfetched to say anything online affects people both good and bad. Take 'cyber-bullying' for example. There are many people that it affects even when some of us would never think that it should have as much impact that it does. Before you know it, we'll have cyber-doctors and cyber-scientists, if we don't already.

I agree that the face we often show online is closer to our real face than in our daily interactions. The ability to speak freely without the threat of a face-to-face retalliation is a new social feature. many who partake in cyber bullying do so because all they have done is type some words on to a screen. The affect on the other person is not even a consideration. Cyber psychology may soon be a class at CSN.
ReplyDeleteI'm a nerd I saw this coming long before most people had even heard of the internet. We are talking 1979, when the only people online were the military, scientist and a few colleges (I happen to live near one of the schools, I was 14).
ReplyDeleteFacebook is not new before the internet as we know it today there was AOL (America Online); before them was Compuserve and before that were BBS's (bulletin board systems). Nerds have strived for the online experience and the ability to share ideas and information. We hated when AOL brought grandma online (original member of the AOL hate club).
RTFM (Read The F-ing Manual) there once was a set of ethics amongst internet users, now technology moves faster than the human mind and fingers faster than too.
